2023 Central Massachusetts Property Tax Rate
Massachusetts property taxes are determined by the value of the property itself, as well as a tax rate set in place by the Massachusetts state government.
According to MassLive, property tax rates have increased from 2022 to 2023, with residential property owners now paying 9.6% more in property taxes, or an extra $431 dollars.
The current property tax rates in Worcester are as follows:
- Residential Property Taxes: $14.31 per $1,000
- Commercial Property Taxes: $31.26 per $1,000
Residential property taxes are for places like homes and apartments, while commercial property taxes are for businesses, stores, office buildings, and hotels. Commercial property taxes are generally much higher than residential property taxes, and this continues to be the case as of July 2023.
According to Patch, the increased value of property in Central Massachusetts is the cause of taxes being higher. Higher property taxes help pay for city services like schools, public safety, parks, local government, and infrastructure.
